INTER-INSTITUTIONAL AGREEMENTS / KA171

The conclusion of bilateral agreements within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA171 action (International Credit Mobility with third countries not associated with the Programme / Partner Countries) is carried out through a transparent and academically justified process, based on the evaluation and recommendations of the faculty members of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Please note that for the implementation of any type of mobility (student mobility for studies/traineeships or staff mobility for teaching/training) under the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme, the prior existence of an active and approved Inter-institutional Agreement between NKUA and the host/sending institution is strictly mandatory.

🔸 Annual Call for Expressions of Interest

During October of each academic year, the Department of European and International Relations issues an official call for expressions of interest to the faculty members of all Schools and Departments of the University. This call is communicated via academic email and published in the Announcements section.

Through this application process, teaching staff have the opportunity to propose the establishment of partnerships with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in countries outside the European Union (Third countries not associated with the Programme / Partner Countries), with which:

• There is a proven scientific and academic relevance.
• There is a clear prospect for developing joint educational and research activities.

🔸 Eligible Countries in the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme

The KA171 action focuses on International Credit Mobility and enables cooperation with countries worldwide, officially designated by the European Commission as "Third countries not associated with the Programme" (Partner Countries).

These countries are categorized into distinct geographic regions and include nations from the Western Balkans, the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania.

🔸 Institution Eligibility Criteria and OID (Organisation ID) Verification

For the submission of any partnership proposal with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from eligible Third Countries, it is a mandatory prerequisite that the foreign host Institution possesses a valid OID (Organisation ID). This 9-digit code (which begins with the letter "E") serves as the unique electronic identity for every organization within the European Commission's platforms for Education and Training.

The existence and validity of the OID code are verified as follows:

• Verification and Search: Interested faculty members or representatives of the foreign Institution can search for the code through the European Commission's official portal, by entering the official name of the Institution or its country of origin in the organization search section: 🌍 Erasmus+ & European Solidarity Corps platform - Search for an Organisation
• Registration Process: In the event that the Institution does not have an OID code, it must proceed with its online registration on the same platform before the partnership proposal is finalized, in order to obtain its unique code.

Please note that partnership proposals with Institutions that do not possess, or fail to timely acquire, a valid OID code cannot be included in the evaluation and funding process.

If you are interested in establishing a partnership with NKUA, please contact an NKUA faculty member within your academic field. They can then submit a cooperation proposal on your behalf during the application period, which is announced around October of each year.
