This guide outlines the types of activities that qualify for Erasmus+ funding under staff training mobility. This mobility supports the professional development of both academic and administrative staff through training events abroad (excluding conferences) and job shadowing at a partner Higher Education Institution (HEI) or any other relevant organization active in the labor market.
1. Core Eligible Activities
An Erasmus+ training mobility must last 5 consecutive days (excluding travel time) and focus on the transfer of knowledge, good practices, and practical skills. Eligible activities include:
- Job Shadowing & Observation Periods: Spending time working alongside colleagues at a host institution to learn about their methods, workflows, software systems, or administrative setups.
- Staff Training Weeks: Participating in structured "International Staff Weeks" organized by host universities, which feature workshops, networking, and presentations on specific university operations (e.g., International Offices, Libraries, IT Services, Admissions).
- Workshops and Seminars: Attending targeted, practical training sessions designed to develop specific professional skills (e.g., language training, digital skills, conflict resolution, project management).
- Cultural & Language Training: Participating in intensive language courses or intercultural communication training that directly benefits the staff member's role at their home university.
2. Blended Mobility
Training activities can be carried out in a blended format, combining a physical stay abroad with a virtual component (e.g., online collaborative workshops, pre-mobility digital seminars).
- Funding is only provided for the duration of the physical stay.
❌ What is NOT Eligible?
The following activities cannot be funded under a Staff Mobility for Training grant:
- Conferences and Research Symposiums: Attending scientific, academic, or professional conferences is strictly ineligible under this scheme.
- Purely Research Activities: Carrying out personal research, writing academic papers, or attending research-only meetings.
- Standard Student Mobility Supervision: Traveling solely to supervise or visit your home university’s Erasmus students abroad.
Important Requirement: All training activities must be agreed upon prior to departure via a formal Mobility Agreement for Training, signed by the staff member, the home institution, and the host institution/organization.
