This guide outlines the types of activities that qualify for Erasmus+ funding under teaching mobility. To be eligible, the mobility must take place at a partner Higher Education Institution (HEI) holding an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) with which your home institution has an active inter-institutional agreement.
1. Core Eligible Activities
An Erasmus+ teaching mobility must involve a minimum of 8 teaching hours per week. The following activities count toward these hours:
- Lectures and Seminars: Delivering regular course lectures, specialized seminars, or interactive workshops to students (Bachelor, Master, or PhD level) at the host institution.
- Guest Speaking & Keynotes: Presenting as a guest lecturer within an existing course module or academic curriculum.
- Joint Teaching Activities: Co-teaching or co-delivering a course alongside faculty members of the host university.
- Exam/Thesis Examination (as part of teaching): Participating in academic evaluations or thesis defenses, provided it is part of a broader teaching program during the stay.
2. Combined Mobility (Teaching & Training)
If the teaching mobility is combined with a staff training activity during the same stay, the minimum number of teaching hours is reduced from 8 hours to 4 hours per week.
- Note: The training component must contribute to the professional development of the staff member.
3. Blended Mobility
Teaching activities can be delivered in a blended format, which combines a physical stay abroad with a virtual component (online teaching, collaborative virtual classrooms, or digital seminars).
- Funding is only provided for the duration of the physical stay.
❌ What is NOT Eligible?
The following activities cannot be funded under a pure Staff Mobility for Teaching grant (though some may fall under Staff Mobility for Training):
- Attending conferences, research symposiums, or scientific workshops as a regular participant without a direct teaching assignment.
- Purely carrying out personal research or laboratory work.
- Administrative meetings or planning visits (unless they are explicitly part of a preparatory visit for a future Blended Intensive Program).
Important Requirement: All teaching activities must be agreed upon prior to departure via a formal Mobility Agreement for Teaching, signed by the staff member, the home institution, and the host institution.
