LEARNING AGREEMENT

The Learning Agreement is a mandatory document for all incoming Erasmus+ students. It outlines the academic activities to be undertaken at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and ensures that these activities have been agreed upon by the student, the home university and NKUA before the mobility begins.

Preparation and Submission

Before completing your Learning Agreement, please contact your Academic Coordinator at NKUA to discuss your proposed study programme and confirm the availability and suitability of your selected courses or academic activities.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Select your courses or academic activities: Consult the relevant NKUA Department's website for information on available courses, ECTS credits and language of instruction. Master's students and PhD candidates should discuss any research-related activities with their Academic Coordinator at NKUA.
  2. Complete your Learning Agreement: Include the courses or academic activities you intend to undertake at NKUA, along with the corresponding ECTS credits, where applicable.
  3. Obtain the required signatures: The Learning Agreement must be approved and signed by you, your home university and your Academic Coordinator at NKUA.

ECTS Credits and Academic Recognition

The academic requirements for Erasmus+ mobility depend on the student's level of study.

Bachelor's Degree Students

For semester-long mobility, Bachelor's students are expected to follow a study programme corresponding to 30 ECTS credits per semester at NKUA.

The ECTS credits included in the Learning Agreement must also be recognised by the student's home university upon successful completion of the agreed academic activities.

Students should therefore ensure that their proposed study programme has been approved by both institutions before the start of their mobility.

Master's Degree Students

For semester-long mobility, Master's students are also expected to undertake a study programme corresponding to 30 ECTS credits per semester.

If suitable courses are not available, Master's students may include activities related to the preparation, research and writing of their Master's dissertation/thesis as part of their Learning Agreement.

This arrangement is subject to the prior agreement of the Academic Coordinators at both the home university and NKUA, who must jointly approve the proposed activities and agree on the corresponding number of ECTS credits.

The agreed ECTS credits must also be recognised by the student's home university.

PhD Candidates

PhD candidates undertaking research mobility at NKUA are not required to obtain ECTS credits, as their mobility is generally focused on doctoral research rather than coursework.

Instead of listing courses and ECTS credits, PhD candidates should provide a clear description of the research activities they intend to undertake during their stay at NKUA.

These activities must be discussed and agreed upon in advance with the relevant Academic Coordinators at both institutions and clearly reflected in the Learning Agreement.

Changes to the Learning Agreement

If changes to your study programme become necessary after your arrival, for example due to course availability, timetable conflicts or adjustments to your research activities, you must consult both your Academic Coordinator at NKUA and your home university.

Any changes must be formally approved by the relevant parties and recorded in the appropriate section of your Learning Agreement.

Important: The courses listed in your initial Learning Agreement are subject to confirmation by the relevant NKUA Department. Your final study programme will be confirmed after your arrival, in consultation with your Academic Coordinator.

Short-term Mobility

For short-term Erasmus+ mobility, the Learning Agreement must clearly describe the approved academic or research activities and the expected learning outcomes of the mobility period.

The applicable ECTS requirements depend on the mobility format and the nature of the planned activities and must be agreed upon by the participating institutions.

For PhD candidates undertaking short-term research mobility, the Learning Agreement may focus on the planned research activities without assigning ECTS credits, where applicable.

For academic matters, including course selection, ECTS credits, dissertation-related activities, doctoral research and approval of your study programme, please contact your Academic Coordinator at NKUA.

For administrative questions concerning the submission of your Learning Agreement, please contact the Department of European and International Relations.
