LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

🔸 Language of Instruction

The main language of instruction at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is Greek. Exceptions apply to the Departments of Foreign Languages and Literature, which offer courses in their respective languages of study.

In addition, the School of Law offers specialised programmes in English, French, and German.

A number of courses taught in English are also available across several Schools and Departments, including:

  • Economics
  • Political Science & Public Administration
  • Communication & Media Studies
  • Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies
  • Music Studies
  • Theology
  • Social Theology and the Study of Religion
  • School of Physical Education and Sport Science

Furthermore, a significant number of postgraduate programmes are offered in English, while some are also available in other languages such as French, German, Spanish, and Italian.

In Departments where courses are primarily taught in Greek, special arrangements are made for Erasmus+ students with limited or no Greek language proficiency. The most common practice is the assignment of written work in English, supported by English-language bibliography.

🔸 Language Requirements

The University of Athens requires a good command of either Greek or English (minimum level B2), sufficient for academic communication and participation in university life.

Students enrolling in postgraduate courses must meet the specific language requirements of the respective programme.
