🔸 Healthcare

Health Coverage at NKUA

All registered NKUA students, including Erasmus+ and non-EU students, have access to free medical and dental care through on-campus health facilities. Services include:

  • General practitioner, dentist, ophthalmologist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and other specialties
  • Nursing care and referrals for dermatological examinations

Locations:

  • 1st Residence Hall Clinic (Campus, Ilissia)

Public Healthcare Access

Students without private insurance are entitled to free emergency and hospital care under the Greek National Health System (EOPYY), provided they present their Academic ID at public or university hospitals.


Required Insurance (Non-EU Students)

Non-EU students undertaking a traineeship at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) must hold valid private insurance covering the entire duration of their stay in Greece.

The insurance policy must include:

  1. Accident-related permanent disability (minimum €15,000 per year)
  2. Medical expenses due to illness or accident (minimum €1,500 per year)
  3. Comprehensive hospital care (minimum €10,000 per year)

The policy must explicitly state coverage in Greece or throughout the European Union.

 


 

🔸 Student Restaurants

Students are entitled to two free meals per day from 1 September to 30 June, excluding Christmas and Easter holiday periods.

Upon arrival in Athens, students will receive instructions from their Department regarding the online application process for access to university restaurants.

University Club

Faculty Computer Rooms

Most faculties provide dedicated computer rooms for student use. Availability and access may vary by department.

🔸 University Sports Centre

The University Sports Centre, operating since 1930 at the Ano Ilissia Campus, offers a wide range of physical and recreational activities promoting health and well-being.

Activities

  • Strength training and isokinetic exercise
  • Team sports (volleyball, football, basketball)
  • Track and field
  • Adaptive exercise for students with disabilities (FMEA)
  • Traditional Greek dances
  • Fitness classes (aerobics, yoga, Pilates, HIIT, CrossFit)
  • Chess, tennis, table tennis, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Competitive university teams

Registration & Requirements

  • Operating period: 1 October – 30 June
  • Opening hours: Monday–Friday, 09:00–18:00 (closed weekends and holidays)
  • Registration hours: 10:00–13:30

Requirements:

  • Student ID card
  • Recent cardiologist medical certificate

Cardiologist appointments are available at the University Club Health Service on Tuesdays and Thursdays (14:00–19:00).
